PURPOSE:To detect the small amount of leakage of gas and the leaking point preceisely by detecting the leakage of gas as a variation in acoustic characteristic of the pipe. CONSTITUTION:an acoustic white noise transmitter 1 is provided at one end of a pipeline having a length l wherein leakage is to be detected, and a receiver 2 is provided at the other end thereof. the acoustic white noise is transmitted in the pipe 3 having the length l and is received by the receiver 2. By obtaining the deviated self-correlation of the acoustic signal received by the receiver 2, acoustic pressure reflection coefficient of the pipe 3 from one end to the other end of the length l and equivalent cross sectional area of the pipe are obtained. The values obtained in this way and the value obtained when leakage does not present are compared, and the leaking point K in the length l can be precisely detected. |
