Method and installation for automatic examination of the circumferential surface of cylindrical objects

The objects are advanced from a vibrating bowl (1) along channels (5) and pass in front of examination stations (3 and 4) where they are illuminated, turned and photographed by linear cameras which take successive images of their generatrices. The two illuminations are produced slightly differently in the two examination stations, which makes it possible to obtain complementary images which respectively show certain types of defects better. Switching means then make it possible to separate out the incorrect objects and store the others in a suitable place (2). The invention may be applied to nuclear fuel pellets. <IMAGE>
