This system for transmission/reception of digital frames at a data rate allowing insertion of additional binary elements possibly constituting either an error correcting code or supplementary binary information elements is such that, the said insertion of additional binary elements consisting, in the case of an error correcting code, of insertion of binary elements called checking elements calculated on the basis of the binary information elements to be transmitted, according to the said code, this system includes, on reception, means for recognising the type of additional binary elements received, themselves including: - means (111) for comparison between checking binary elements received and binary elements generated in a way identical to the binary checking elements generated on transmission, but on the basis of the binary information elements received, <IMAGE> - means (112) for calculating the rate of divergence between these binary checking elements over a certain reception duration, - and means (113) for comparing this rate to a threshold value, leading to recognition of an error correcting code in the event of a low rate of divergence or to recognition of supplementary binary information elements in the case of a high rate of divergence.
