Culturing and packaging process for plants, especially aquatic plants, by taking cuttings and rooting one or more stalks, combined in a bunch, in a clump in the form of a muff and made of a downy and elastic substrate of synthetic fibres, characterised by the fact that the stalk(s) (4) for the cuttings is (are) placed on a rectangular band (1) of this substrate, the ends (1e) of this band are folded around the stalks (4), and the two ends of the band which are superimposed just above are gripped (5), the unit is placed between the jaws (6) of pincers, the ends of the band are cut level with the jaws (6) or just above (7), and, finally, the fibres of the substrate are fused at the level of the cut (7) so as to weld the ends of the muff together.
