<p>A method and apparatus for security marking an article having a plastics outer surface, in situ in a vehicle. The method comprises thermally deforming the plastics outer surface to leave at least one recessed visible indicium within the plastics surface. The indicium represents at least one characteristic of the vehicle, such as age and manufacturer. The apparatus (1) comprises a die (5) element carrying a formed representation of an indicium (7) thereon, the die element (5) being retained in a housing at one end (4) of an elongate heat conduction member (3). The other end of the heat conduction member (3) is connected to a handle (2) which contains heat generation means.</p> |
