Optical interface for data handling devices - uses opto-electronic coupler with optical fibre link for galvanic separation

The optical interface (15) has an optoelectronic coupler (17, 18, 21, 22) inserted in the data lines between the data handling devices (1, 5) for providing galvanic separation. The optical transmission and reception elements within the optoelectronic couplers (17, 18, 21, 22) are coupled via at least one optical fibre link (19, 20), for suppressing noise signals. Pref. 2 optical transmitters (17, 22) and 2 optical receivers (19, 20) are coupled via respective optical fibre links (19, 20), to allow bidirectional data transmission.
