1378671 Cleaners containing bleach PROCTER & GAMBLE CO 21 Feb 1972 [22 Feb 1971] 7963/72 Heading C5D [Also in Division D1] A chlorine-free, dry bleach composition which may be used for cleaning sinks, dentures and textiles comprises: (A) from 8 to 60% by weight of a bleaching agent selected from: (i) sodium monopersulphate, (ii) potassium monopersulphate, (iii) an organic peroxyacid or water-soluble salt thereof, said peroxyacid having the general formula wherein R is a substituted (e.g. by Cl), unsubstituted alkylene, or arylene group and Y is a group providing an anionic moiety in aqueous solution, e.g. -COO-, SO 3 or -CO.OO-, and (iv) mixtures thereof; (B) from 10 to 60% by weight of a quaternary ammonium compound of the general formula wherein R 1 is an alkyl group containing from 12 to 20 carbon atoms; R 2 is selected from alkyl groups containing from 1 to 14 carbon atoms, cycloalkyl groups containing from 5 to 8 carbon atoms, carboxymethyl groups, aryl groups containing from 6 to 8 carbon atoms, alkaryl groups containing from 7 to 10 carbon atoms, pyridyl, and groups of the general formula -(C 3 H 6 O) a (C 2 H 4 O) b H, wherein a and b are 0 or integers and a+b is from 1 to 50; R 3 , R 4 and R 5 are each selected from alkyl groups containing from 1 to 3 carbon atoms, aryl groups containing from 6 to 8 carbon atoms, cycloalkyl groups containing from 5 to 8 carbon atoms, carboxymethyl groups, alkaryl groups containing from 7 to 10 carbon atoms, pyridyl, and groups of the general formula wherein a and b are 0 or integers and a+b is from 1 to 50; R 6 represents one of the groups given for R 3 , R 4 and R 5 or is H; R 7 is an alkylene group containing from 1 to 3 carbon atoms, an arylene group containing from 5 to 8 carbon atoms or a group of the formula wherein X is a non-interfering water-soluble salt forming mono- or divalent anion; and wherein n is 1 when X is a monovalent anion and n is 2 when X is a divalent anion; and (C) from 10 to 75% by weight of a buffering agent effective to maintain a solution pH of from 7 to 10 when said composition is dissolved in water for bleaching, e.g. phosphates, hydrogen phosphates, carbonates or bicarbonates. An aqueous bleaching solution may be formed by dissolving components (A) and (B) in water whilst maintaining the pH between 7 and 10. The aqueous solutions can be used for bleaching and softening cotton fabrics.
|
