This process is of the type according to which the filaments are coated with a thermoplastic substance. The filaments pass through a chamber (14, 26) in which they pass over a number of return bodies (15-19) and which is filled with a thermoplastic substance under pressure, which is made viscous by heating, and this has the effect of coating the filaments with a matrix consisting of this plastic substance, on leaving the chamber (14, 26) the filaments pass through at least one die (25', 27) with the matrix coating them, the pseudomonofilament (30) thus formed is subjected to a twist and, next, it is coated with a sheath of wear-resistant thermoplastic substance.
