PURPOSE:To insert a wire electrode smoothly without causing erroneous operation by holding the wire electrode between first and second pulleys and then driving an ultrasonic vibrator thereby feeding the wire electrode. CONSTITUTION:When a wire electrode feeder 40 is not operating, a DC voltage is normally applied on a piezoelectric laminate 50 thus spacing a first pulley 47 apart from a second pulley 48 by a distance slightly longer than the diameter of a wire electrode. Consequently, the pulleys 47, 48 can be protected against abrasion on the surface thereof. Upon operation of the wire electrode feeder 40, one end of a cut wire electrode 60 is fed to the gap between the first and second pulleys 47, 48. thus bringing them into contact with each other. Upon finish of insertion of the wire electrode, the first and second pulleys 47, 48 are separated from each other. |
