Peptides of the formula (I) <IMAGE> in which R<2> is -OH, the peptide chain <IMAGE> or <IMAGE> or a corresponding peptide chain which is identical to the two previously mentioned peptide chains but with the proviso that one or more of the amino acids is/are omitted, or salts thereof, some of which are previously unknown, can be used as a diagnostic reagent, for example in association with gallstones and urinary tract stones, spasms in the digestive system and gastric ulcers. While the compounds I exhibit the same spasmolytic effect and the same inhibitory effect on gastric acid secretion as glucagon, they have either no metabolic effect or only an insignificant metabolic effect.
