摘要 PURPOSE:To easily obtain the coupling to an optical fiber as an SLA element by forming a 1st optical waveguide which has odd points of bent parts each having a total reflection surface and disposing the total reflection surfaces in such a manner as to be perpendicular to or parallel with a 1st reference plane. CONSTITUTION:The 1st optical waveguide 6 is formed on a semiconductor 11 and the 2nd optical waveguide 3 having the 1st reference plane 4 and the 2nd reference plane 1 disposed in parallel therewith is provided. The 1st optical waveguide 6 has odd points of the bent parts 42a and is disposed so that the total reflection surfaces 42b of the bent parts 42a are paralleled with the plane in the direction perpendicular to the 1st reference plane 4. Light rays 5, 5' emitted or made incident by the direction of the surface determined as the 1st reference plane 4 are paralleled with the 1st reference plane 4 and the 2nd optical waveguide 3 is disposed perpendicularly to the 1st reference plane 4. The total reflection surfaces 42b of the bent parts 32a of the 1st optical waveguide 6 are also paralleled with the 1st reference plane 4. The optical coupling is easily executed between the semiconductor light emitting element and the optical fiber in this way.
