PURPOSE:To obtain a high density titanium boride sintered body by a conventional sintering under ordinary pressure at a low cost by using a mixture of the silicide of a group IVA element with the carbide of a group VIA element as a sintering aid when a titanium boride sintered body is produced. CONSTITUTION:Titanium boride powder is sintered with a mixture of the silicide of a group IVA element with the carbide of a group VIA element as a sintering aid. The silicide may be ZrSi, ZrSi2, TiSi, TiSi2 or HfS2, and the carbide may be Cr3C2, MoC or WC. The silicide is preferably mixed with the carbide in(5:1)-(1:5) weight ratio and the amt. of the sintering aid used is preferably regulated to <=10wt.% of the total amt. of the titanium boride powder and the sintering aid. |
