The portable TV/VTR system has functions to turn off the VTR when broadcasting signal is not detected for a time and to tell the operation steps in voice. The system includes a tape residual quantity detector (7) for detecting the residual quantity of tape by receiving a signal from a supply and take up reel unit (6), a microcomputer (2) receiving the mode signal transmitted from an external key unit (1) and residual quantity signal, an audio memory and recall unit (3) for memorizing and recalling audio signal by address signal (ADD1) and control signal (CTL1) transmitted from the microcomputer, a video memory and recall unit (4) for memorizing and recalling the video signal, and a residual quantity display (8) for displaying the residual quantity of the tape using different sized LEDs.
