The present invention relates to a decorative hood for a fireplace with an open hearth or a closed continuous fire hearth, comprising at least one hood body having a front wall 1 and two side walls 2, characterised in that the said walls 1/2 are made up of several prefabricated elements 11a/12a, the sides of which comprise means for assembly and connection of the said elements to one another for forming panels 11a/12a/14a/15a, which panels are connected to one another by means of intermediate assembly rods 4 and/or corner rods 3 having connection means complementing those of the elements of the panels 11a/12a/14a/15a in order to match the hood to the dimensions of the fireplace. <IMAGE>
