<p>A system for recognizing characters engraved on a passing medium and consisting of segments arranged perpendicularly to each other. By using CCD-type cameras (CAV, CAH) linked to each of two light sources (SH, SV) which enhance the two different kinds of segment of each character, the system picks up the signals from both cameras, detects the first and second types of segment using the signals from each of the cameras, then by roughly locating one of the kinds of segment and more finely locating the other kind of segment, and then by comparing them to a selected character font, identifies the detected character. The system can be used for recognizing characters engraved on media in order to identify and check said media.</p> |
