METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR DETECTING POSITION

PURPOSE:To attain detection of position with high accuracy without being affected by fading and an interruption wave from other transmitter by using a transmission wave modulated with a code string having strong autocorrelation and adopting the system at a receiver side to detect the correlation with respect to the transmission wave so as to detect the position. CONSTITUTION:A carrier outputted from an oscillator 30 is subjected to phase modulation in response to a code string outputted from a fixed code generator 36 and a radio wave subjected to phase modulation is sent from a transmission antenna 34. A code string stored in a ROH 36a of the fixed code generator 36 has a strong autocorrelation, and an m-series PN code string or the like is used. A code string stored in the ROM 36a for plural transmitters being communication opposite parties is stored respectively in ROMs 1-n. A reception wave received by a reception antenna 40 and a reference signal wave fed from a phase modulator 54 are used for the detection and the reference wave modulated by one and same code string is fed to a product detector 42 by selecting the ROMs 1-n.
