MATERIAL FOR ELECTRICAL CONTACT AND MANUFACTURE THEREOF

PURPOSE:To increase the break current value, lower the contact resistance and enhance the welding resistance of an electrical contact by uniformly dispersing Cr of predetermined average particle diameter in a Cu matrix. CONSTITUTION:A material for an electrical contact is composed mainly of Cr and Cu and a mixture containing Cr in the range 5 to 20wt.% is melted in inert gas atmosphere or vacuum and the molten metal is refined using atomizing method and the Cr of average particle diameter less than 5mum is uniformly dispersed in a Cu matrix. The electrical contact is formed by sintereing powder of a Cu-Cr alloy thus obtained and the average particle diameter of the Cr becomes 2 to 20mum through the sintering process and besides the range of the particle diameter is narrowed and uniformed.
