摘要 PURPOSE:To make an automatic alignment by scanning in two-dimensions of depth and surface directions of an inspected object and extracting a peak value corresponding to the distance of the surface direction at the scanning position of each depth direction. CONSTITUTION:A scan mechanism 1 controlled by a picture processor 10 scans an inspected object 16 in two-dimensions of a surface direction and a focusing depth direction with its ultrasonic probe 3. An ultrasonic detector 4 transmits pulse signals with a prescribed measuring period to a probe 3 by the control of the processor 10 and detects echo received signals of the probe 3 from the inspected object 16 corresponding to this, and a peak detecting circuit 5 detects the peak value of a necessary echo portion. The measured data are normalized on the basis of the maximum peak value and the height of the probe obtaining the measured data of the minimum width characteristic is computed. Thus, the height of the probe at the focus position for that characteristic to become sharpest is detected. The focusing can be automatically made by situating the probe at the height of the probe obtained by this.
