Stable ternary complex of chitosan, lipid and calcium. The lipid may be in the form of an alkali metal, preferably sodium, monovalent salt. This complex can be employed for stabilising aqueous liposome dispersions. This complex can exhibit an infrared spectrum such as shown in Figure 2. <IMAGE>
