The ion source for the charged particles injector generates a hollow cylindrical ion beam. It has an annular anode (10) and an annular cathode in a cylindrical housing (1) with face sides. One side has an axial aperture and the other one is closed and rigidly connected to one end of a rod (4), whose other end carries a disc (5) of soft magnetic material, forming an annular gap for ion discharge with the axial aperture. The annular cathode and anode are surrounded by a hollow ring (7) mounted coaxially in the cylindrical housing and insulated from the same. The side face (8) has an annular gap directed to similar gap in the other side face (3). Outside the side face (3) is coaxially mounted a heating cathode (11). The entire assembly is of soft magnetic material, with the exception of the hollow ring which is non-magnetic.
