Prepn. of an edge-sealed single- or multi-faced tooth filling from a light-hardenable plastics composite, comprises introducing the filling material into a prepared cavity in the tooth and inserting into the filling material, so as to cause some displacement of it, an insert having the general shape of the cavity and made of a light conducting and light scattering material, and hardening the filling material by application of light by way of the insert, i.e. from the interior of the filling. USE/ADVANTAGE - The process allows the direction of shrinkage of the filling during hardening to be controlled to give excellent sealing round the edges of the filling. The insert is e.g. rod-shaped, L-shaped or U-shaped and may be made of plastic, ceramic, glass ceramic, hydroxylapatite, etc.. (15pp Dwg.No.9/14)
