PURPOSE:To obtain a thermal recording material having a high color-forming sensitivity and capable of stably being subjected to a continuous smoothing treatment by a method wherein a ratio of an adhesive in a thermal color- forming layer is specified, and the surface of said layer is smoothed by a roll specified in surface wetting index to have a specific Bekk smoothness. CONSTITUTION:A weight ratio of an adhesive is adjusted to range from 2 to 25%. In a surface treatment, a Bekk smoothness is determined to be 200sec. or more, and a roll surface to directly abut on a thermal color-forming layer has a wetting index of 45dyne/cm or less. When a thermal recording material is smoothed by a pressurizer using a metallic roll and an elastic roll in combination, the thermal recording material is passed with the thermal color-forming layer thereof abutted on the metallic roll. In this manner, the surface can be smoothed more efficiently than a paper passing method in which said layer is abutted on the elastic roll. The roll surface having a wetting index of 45dyne/ cm or more results in a coating being peeled. A uniform and thin coating of a higher fatty acid, such as stearic acid and behenic acid, or a higher fatty acid metallic salt, such as zinc stearate and calcium stearate, on the surface of the metallic roll is effective for preventing the peeling. |
