The pathway made from rectangular paving slabs has gaps at the edges, which are filled with soil and form a rectangular grid in which grass or other vegetation can grow. The width of the gaps is determined by hollow, vertical spacers (1) made of plastics, fitted at the junctions between the vertical and horizontal parts of the grid. Each spacer is T-shaped with a longer chamber (4) between two short chambers (3), all open at top and bottom. The longer central chamber is separted from the two outer chambers by partitions (5) which extend downwards for about half the overall height of the spacer.
