PURPOSE:To perform density projection as to respective picture elements of processed image information and to detect the positions and number of burnt-out lamps by converting digital image information which is obtained by an image pickup means into binary data. CONSTITUTION:The lamps of a photoelectric display plate are all placed in an OFF state and an image pickup device 10 inputs its digital image information; and control is performed by a graphic image processor 11 and the result is written in image memories 12 and 13. The image information is read out and converted by a pipeline image processor 14 into binary data, which is processed by a pipeline basis to input data '1' and '0' to picture elements representing lamps in an ON state and the lamps in the OFF state respectively. The image information which is thus processed is masked and the number of illuminating lamps for the density projection is calculated; and the values of the picture elements are added by rows and columns and then a decision is made according to a density histogram to know the positions and number of the lamps in the OFF state, thereby securely detecting a burnt-out lamp in a short time. |
