Clamping devices are provided to grip the ham 30 by means of jaws 11 acting on both sides of the ham and a pusher device 12 that pushes the jaws 11 together in order to deform the ham by reducing its horizontal dimension perpendicular to the axis A; this deformation is maintained at the smallest value of the corresponding dimension of the mould cavity and for a period of time such that, when the ham is subsequently placed in the mould, the said dimension still has a smaller value than the corresponding dimension of the cavity 41. Introduction of the ham into the cavity 41 is thus simplified by preventing the sides 32 from becoming jammed (and damaged) against the upper edges of the cavity 41 while the die 42 is descending. <IMAGE> |
