摘要 PURPOSE:To partially oxidate toluene and to obtain benzaldehyde in a good yield by making toluene and an oxidizer react in an anode, making the hydrogen ions generated in the anode react with oxygen in a cathode to make into water, and repeating the opening and the closing of the circuit. CONSTITUTION:The reaction in an anode and a cathode when steam is used as the oxidizer can be shown in the following formulas. Anode: C6H5-CH3+ H2O C6H5-CHO+4H<-> (1), C6H5-CH3+2H2O C6H5-COOH+6H<+>+6e<-> (2), C6H5- CH3+7H2O 7CO2+36H<+>+36e<-> (3), and cathode: 1/2O2+2H<+>+2e<-> H2O (4). When a reaction gas is lead in a reaction device, a small amount of oxidation product is produced even in the condition to open the circuit immediately after the leading in, but it is disappeared soon. And the circuit of the fuel cell is repeated to open and close alternatively in order to increase the production amount of benzaldehyde. By repeating the opening and the closing of the circuit alternatively, a much larger amount of benzaldehyde can be obtained compared with the case of the circuit being closed.
