<p>An aqueous flame retardant formulation containing 20 to 35 wt.% non-volatile materials which materials comprise 40 to 50 wt.% water-soluble ammonium salt, such as ammonium phosphate or ammonium bromide; 10 to 20 wt.% water-insoluble organic phosphate, such as tri(t-butyl phenyl) phosphate, tricresylphosphate, trixylenylphosphate, or tri(isopropyl phenyl) phosphate; from 10 to 20 wt.% of a stable resin binder such as a melamine formaldehyde resin; and from 20 to 25 wt.% of a non-ionic surfactant such as nonylphenolphenoxypolyethyloxyethanol is disclosed. The flame retardant formulation is particularly useful for application to nonwoven materials such as paperboard, films and spunbonded polyolefin nonwoven fabrics.</p> |
