PURPOSE:To quickly retrieve a keyword by reducing the number of pictures for normal keyword retrieval, namely, the data volume to be compared with a retrieval keyword by rough retrieval with a group keyword. CONSTITUTION:A CPU 34 obtains the retrieval keyword number corresponding to the retrieval keyword from a keyword correspondence table 26d. The CPU 34 generates a retrieval group keyword from the retrieval keyword number. This group keyword is used to perform rough retrieval processing, thereby considerably reducing the number of pictures for normal keyword retrieval, namely, the data volume to be compared with the retrieval keyword. Thus, the keyword retrieval speed is increased.
