PURPOSE:To obtain the subject material excellent in softness and bulkiness, light in touch of gel and suitable for a paper diaper, etc., by blending a hydrophobic synthetic fiber impregnated with a polyacrylic acid-based water absorbing resin with a cellulose-based fiber and further with another fiber material. CONSTITUTION:A fiber material composed of a hydrophobic synthetic fiber and a cellulose-based fiber in a mixing ratio in the range of (20/80)-(80/20)(wt. ratio) is impregnated with an aqueous monomer solution mainly composed of a neutral alkali salt of acrylic acid and capable of producing a water absorbing resin by a polymerization reaction so that the resin content may be 10-50wt.%. A heated mixture gas composed of an inert gas and steam is then circulated onto the resultant impregnated material to polymerize the monomers till the content of unreacted monomers is <0.5wt.%. The resultant polymer is opened and blended with another fiber material and the resultant blended material is formed into a sheet shape, thus giving the objective material. |
