PURPOSE:To quicken the sharpness emphasis processing by detecting a difference of a level between a picture element signal at a required point on an original picture and a picture element signal in the vicinity thereof and adding a constant number to the picture element signal at the required point when the level difference is a reference level or over. CONSTITUTION:A contour component extraction circuit is provided with plural subtractors 21-24 to calculate a difference of a signal level between a picture element from which a contour component is extracted and a picture element in the vicinity of the noted picture element respectively and they are connected respectively to a couple of comparators 25,26 to which an optional reference level S is set. A signal of '1', '-1', '0' is given to an adder 27 depending on the difference of the signal level calculated by each of the subtractors 21-24. The adder 27 outputs a sum of given signals as a contour component signal of a picture element (a). That is, when the difference of the signal level between the noted picture element and the picture element in the vicinity of thereof is a reference level or over, it is discriminated that there is a contour and a contour component 1 is given and the contour component with respect to surrounding picture elements is summed to obtain the contour component of the noted picture element. |
