<p>PURPOSE:To reclain expanded plastic waste and to recover valuable gas confined in the closed cells of the resin, by charging the expanded plastic waste into a solvent and swelling the waste in the solvent. CONSTITUTION:Expanded plastic waste 1, e.g. expanded polystyrene, is charged through a conveyer 22 into a disposal vessel 11. The interior of the vessel 11 is kept air-tight by closing a cover 18. The waste 1 is dissolved and swollen by a solvent 3, e.g. methylene chloride, in the vessel 11, while gas confined in the closed cells of the resin is released. The gas is carried through a conduit 19 to the outside of the vessel 11, and recovered. When the swelling of the resin is completed, a valve 15 is opened, and the solvent 3 is drawn out into a reservoir 12 by a pump 16. Muddy resin 7 is intrduced through an outlet 20 into a vessel 26, by opening a valve 21. Water 9 is injected through a water-supply pipe 27 into the vessel 26, and then the vessel 26 is covered.</p> |
