The invention relates to a process for rough and fine punching of, for example, lids, beakers, or the like, in which both rough and fine punching is carried out by a common punching device. According to the process, a blank is first punched out by a first punching element 3 against a first punch die 1, after which it is retained on the first punch die 1, which moves from a first punching position to a second delivery position in which the blank is delivered to a retaining device 5, whereafter the first punch die returns to the first punching position, to which a new blank arrives, after which the punch with the first 3 and the second 4 punching element is brought into a punching position, after which both of the blanks situated in the punch are punched out by the second punching element 4 and the first punching element 3 respectively, the first-named blank being fine-punched by the second punching element at the same time as the last-named blank is rough-punched by the first punching element 3, after which the first- named blank is dispatched from the punching device, whereupon the process is repeated.
