PURPOSE:To improve the dispersibility of a sintering aid and the characteristics of a sintered body by molding and firing a mixture of Si3N4 powder with the formate of Y or a rare earth element. CONSTITUTION:Si3N4 powder of 0.1-1.0mum average particle size contg. 0.8-1.5wt.% oxygen as an impurity is mixed with an aq. soln. contg. 0.1-15wt.% formate of Y or a rare earth element and the mixture is spray-dried, granulated, molded into a desired shape and fired at 1,600-2,000 deg.C in a nonoxidizing atmosphere contg. nitrogen. |
