PURPOSE:To prevent a crack generated during utilization in a metallurgical furnace from being largely grown by forming the fine crack to the inside of a chrome-magnesite-based brick and thereafter utilizing this brick as a lining to construct the metallurgical furnace. CONSTITUTION:A chrome-magnesite-based brick is molded, burned and thereafter heated to soak this brick at the temp. range of 800-1100 deg.C. Then fine cracks are formed to the inside of the brick by cooling the brick in the atmosphere at <=700 deg.C. A metallurgical furnace is constructed by utilizing the brick as a lining and thereby spalling of the chrome-magnesite-based brick is inhibited. Problem points relating to spalling resistance of the chrome-magnesite-based brick are solved by the above-mentioned controlling method for spalling of chrome-magnesite-based brick. The unit consumption of refractories in the metallurgical furnace is drastically reduced because this brick is originally large in corrosion resistance for slag in addition thereto. |
