The gaseous glass material is injected from a combustion burner 1 and subjected to a reaction in a flame 2, the formed glass particulates are supplied around the rotating starting material or core rod 3, and the integrated glass-particulate deposit 5 is grown on one side of the plate 4. Consequently, the tapered ineffective part at the end of the glass-particulate deposit to be synthesized is reduced, and cracking is prevented at the ineffective part.</p>
