The appts. to wash cellulose, with at least one mesh belt conveyor and couch roller, together with a washing fluid delivery and fluid collection vessel, has a press roller immediately after the couch to press out the fluid, working with or without suction. The gap between the two rollers, at right angles to the direction of material travel, is less than the dia. of the couch roller. Pref. the angle enclosed by the axes of the two rollers, in relation to the material movement plane from the couch roller axis, is 75-180 deg. The conveyor belt travels generally horizontally or, when using two belts, the direction of travel is generally vertical. The couch is a mesh drum with at least one spiral-shaped paddle and at least one side outlet. The pressure roller has a narrower dia. than the couch roller, and has a perforated surface. The fluid collection vessel is at least partially formed as a suction box. Sprays and the like are at the couch roller zone, to detach any clinging and caked cellulose. AVANTAGE - The assembly occupies less space than conventional equipments, and increases the material density of the cellulose yield.
