A lens carrier (2) attached to a substrate (1) is fitted with an optical lens (3) cooperating with a transmission or reception diode (4). The lens carrier is attached via intermediate spacers (5) provided by welded wise sections of Au or Al. The spacers are initially fitted to carrier or substrate before welding the substrate, the spacers and the lens carrier together via thermo compression welding.
