PURPOSE:To realize high activation and a long life by making a conductive supporter dispersedly support a quadruple solid solution alloy of platinum-cobalt- nickel-copper made up of platinum, cobalt, nickel and copper in a specific ratio. CONSTITUTION:The support platinum quadruple alloy electrode catalyst consists of fine grains of a quadruple solid solution alloy of platinum-cobalt-nickel-copper containing platinum, cobalt, nickel and copper and a conductive supporter for dispersedly supporting the fine grains, for example, a conductive carbon powder supporter. The preferable composition range of a quadruple solid solution alloy of platinum-cobalt-nickel-copper is 40-70atom.% for platinum, 9-27atom.% for cobalt, 9-27atom.% for nickel and 9-27atom.% for copper. It is thereby possible to realize high activation and a long life. |
