The ultrasonic sensor with a grid electrode has a polymer foil (1) mounted on a holder (2). The foil is piezoelectrically activated in at least one region and is coupled to electrodes (9,10) arranged separate from the activated region (8) before and after the foil in the direction of sound propagation. At least the electrode (10) arranged after the foil in the propagation direction is in the form of a grid electrode. ADVANTAGE - Prevents damage to electrode after foil which can be caused by sound reflections.
