PURPOSE:To prevent a driver from misunderstand of the occurrence of a trouble by providing a lighting OFF means to light OFF a discharge lamp bulb during running of a starter motor, in a head lamp for a vehicle to boost a battery voltage and apply the voltage on the discharge lamp bulb for lighting. CONSTITUTION:When an ignition switch SW2 is in some position of OFF, ACC, and ON, by lighting ON a lamp switch SW1, a voltage from a battery BAT is applied on a lighting circuit l. The lighting circuit 1 boosts a battery voltage to generate a high voltage, which is applied on the electrode of a discharge lamp 2 to light ON the discharge lamp. When the SW2 is switch to a START position from this state, the feed of a power source to a head lamp circuit 10 is disconnected, and operation of the lighting circuit 1 is stopped to light OFF the discharge lamp 2. Meanwhile, in this case, the coil of a relay Ry1 is energized by means of a voltage from the battery BAT, and the voltage of the battery BAT IS applied on a scooter motor SM through a relay contact Ry1a to start the scooter motor SM.
