<p>A tiltable marine steering helm assembly (1) which includes a steering-wheel shaft (5) mounted in a universal joint (4) permitting the steering wheel shaft (5) to be tilted at various angles and providing the full rotational movement of the wheel (96) regardless of the tilt angle. The universal joint (4) includes two pairs of yokes (40A, 40B, 41A, 41B) mounted perpendicularly to each other, and a coupling (42) operatively engaged by these yokes (40A, 40B, 41A, 41B). The wheel shaft (5) is able to tilt vertically and to rotate freely due to the design of the universal joint (4). The components of the tilt helm assembly (1) may be reconfigured to permit mounting on either a vertical or a 20 degree tilt dashboard. Also provided is a flexible helm cover (27) which can be installed to the helm assembly (1) without hardware.</p> |
