Provision of full sliver cans to a spinning frame utilises a transporter for exchange of cans between marshalling centres. The frame has stands for a double row of cans at each spinning unit, and the transporter has four locations, which enables a complete transfer to be effected. The appts. is also claimed. Each rotor spinning unit (1) require a supply of sliver (4) placed in a can (3) beneath it. A double staging is provided (2,2') to increase the capacity. By means of computer control, with suitable sensors, it is feasible to arrange changeover of cans before the sliver supply (4) has terminated. Regardless of the position of the can being employed, the transporter (6) hs a mechanical manoevering equipment (21) and two spare locations on the platform, so that a computer programme ensures continuity of the system. ADVANTAGE - The width of spinning unit restricts capacity, but this is overcome by stacking one behind another. Can changeover is manoevered by a transporter with two vacant locations.
