摘要

A biologically pure culture of the microorganism Hyphozyma roseoniger having the identifying characteristics of CBS 214.83 and ATCC 20624 is new. The culture can be used to prepare a diol of formula (I) by cultivating under aerobic conditions in an aqs. nutrient medium contg. cpds. of formula (III), (IV) or (V). In formula R=(A)-(J). Diol may then be cyclised to form a furan of formula (II). Microorganism was isolated from a soil sample obtd. from central New Jersey, USA. Cultivation is pref. at 18-28 deg.C for 12-264 hrs. with a substrate concn. of 1.5-30 g/l.
