Plasma spray burner comprises an anodically connected spray nozzle (82) and cathodic electrode (62) which is connected to the gas feed tube (56) and insulated from the anode by insulation ring (66). The feed tube is surrounded by cooling ducts (42,43) and enters the nozzle channel (72,72a) in channel (59) in the cathode (60). Powder is fed via channel (74) into the nozzle channel which at its exit (73) is inclined at angle (t) to the axis (A). During operation the burner is rotated and moves longitudinally forward.
