PURPOSE:To remarkably improve the working efficiency by continuously polishing a side edge of a stone, mounted onto a table in the side of a rail, during the time a carriage is moved one time on the rail, by a suitable number of grinding wheels, which are arranged on the carriage to decrease grain size smaller successively toward the rear, and forming a stepped part. CONSTITUTION:A side edge of a stone 12 is ground and polished to form a stepped part 13 by a carriage 3, by a suitable number of sets of polishing units 7 in which grinding wheels from coarse to fine grain sizes are successively arranged. In the grinding wheels 5 of the polishing unit 7, a position in a point end of a side of a table 4 is aligned, at each time polishing work is finished, to eliminate a difference of a consumed condition in each grinding wheels 5, and the linear smoothed stepped part 13 of a rising surface is formed also at the time of next polishing. |
