PURPOSE:To enable a fuel cell, in which an acid electrolyte is used, to be operated at a high performance by providing a means of controlling the optimum flow rate of air sent into an oxidant electrode. CONSTITUTION:In using methanol as a fuel and acid electrolyte as an electrolyte, water produced in an air electrode 3 is exhausted and removed by utilizing the steam pressure of air sent into an air chamber 6. Here, by connecting the voltage taken out of part of a wiring, which conducts with a load 9, to the terminal of an air sending equipment 7, terminal voltage of the equipment 7 corresponding to the current of the load 9 can be obtained. As a result, water produced in the air electrode 3 is efficiently exhausted, the oxidation reaction proceeds efficiently in the electrode 3, and the fuel cell can be operated at a high characteristic performance for a long time. |
