Low silhoutte cooling tower with trapezoidal fill and method of air flow therethrough

A counterflow cooling tower is provided in which heat is exchanged between water on heat transfer media (10) and air flowing through the tower. The lower boundary (64) of the said media (10) slopes downwards towards the bottom (14) of the tower from an air entry (28) side to a far side of the tower so as to form a sloped interface. The air flow is therefore distributed more efficiently through all areas of the said media (10). Thus the vertical height requirement of the tower may be reduced. The sloped interface can be formed by using trapezoidal fill sheets (58) or serpentine tubes (72).
