PURPOSE:To allow a jam treatment and the exchange of a process cartridge with a simple operation and to improve the ease of maintenance by providing a jam detecting means and a control means for outputting movement signals to a process cartridge moving means and a cassette moving means in accordance with a jam signal. CONSTITUTION:The signals for the presence or absence of a transfer material from jam detecting sensors S1 to S4 are judged to be whether the jam or not in a jam judging section. The jam judging section emits the jam signal to a control section when the signals are judged to be the jam. The control section, then, stops driving sections relating to image formation, such as driving section for a photosensitive belt, driving section for a developing section and driving section for fixing. The control section emits the movement signals to the process cartridge moving means and the cassette moving means and the release signal to the upper cover releasing means. The process cartridge 15 and the cassette 16 are retreated to the 2nd position and the upper cover 12 is released. The exchange of the process cartridge or the jam treatment is executed by the simple operation in this way and the easy of maintenance is improved. |
