PURPOSE:To reduce considerably the load on software by applying logical operation to display image data in a code memory and plane memories, and storing the results in a memory and transferring them to an external device such as a hard copy device. CONSTITUTION:The contents of the code memory 42 provided to a CRT display device DISP3 with a multicolor graphic display function and display image data based upon the contents of plane memories 62, 63, and 64 are transferred to the hard copy device HCPY2, which takes a hard copy of them. Consequently, a host computer H-CPU1 only transfers the display image data supplied from the DISP3 to the HCPY2 without transferring the contents of the code memory 42 and those of the plane memories 62, 63, and 64 individually. Further, it is not necessary to provide a patterning circuit such as a character generator to the HCPY2 similarly to the DISP3.
