PURPOSE:To efficiently remove nitrogen oxide by decomposing and removing NOx in the presence of 2-4C unsaturated hydrocarbon. CONSTITUTION:Exhaust gas and fuel are introduced into the first catalyst bed composed of alumina or titania and the fuel is subjected to decomposition reaction herein to be converted to hydrocarbon mainly composed of 2-4C unsaturated hydrocarbon. Continuously, the above-mentioned exhaust gas is introduced into the second catalyst bed 7 (e.g. a catalyst wherein Ni or Pt is supported on zeolite or non-aluminosilicate) along with said hydrocarbon and nitrogen oxide in the exhaust gas is decomposed and removed in the presence of said hydrocarbon in an oxidative atmosphere. That is, the exhaust gas is treated under the above-mentioned conditions to make it possible to efficiently remove NOx. |
